Beware of Doorstep Callers

Beware of Doorstep Callers

Posted: Wed, 27 May 2020 10:47 by Claire Buckle

**Rogue Traders are currently operating in the Melton and Rutland areas**

Traders are cold calling residents offering driveway work. This work is often substandard, not required and the price inflated. Consumers are also unable to claim on any warranty if they have not been given the correct paperwork and business information. More »

Advice from local police is always not to buy at the door and never to pay in cash. Always check the credentials of any company you agree to carry out work for you and obtain at least 3 quotes to allow you to make the most informed decision.

Remember if you're not sure, don't open the door. To report, or for free advice and guidance, please contact 0808 223 1133.

Nominate your Local Community Hero

Nominate your Local Community Hero

Posted: Wed, 27 May 2020 10:32 by Claire Buckle

Residents of Melton borough are being given the opportunity to celebrate local community heroes.

As part of National Volunteer's Week, the Council are encouraging residents to share their stories of members of the community who have been making a big difference to their lives or the lives of others. More »

The nominations will be celebrated and published via social media and on the Council website, during National Volunteers' week, which runs from 1 June – 7 June 2020.

Cllr Joe Orson, Leader of the Council, said "This is a great opportunity to give thanks to those who are making a big difference to the community, and it is a way to show that their efforts through the year are hugely appreciated.

The response from the community, both residents and organisations, since the lockdown began has been outstanding and I am looking forward to reading all the stories of how community heroes have made a difference to others during this time."

Often small gestures have a big impact. Community Heroes may be a neighbour who always checks on you, someone who collects your shopping, who lifts your mood when you are down or someone who works hard for the local community group. No matter how small we want to celebrate the fantastic community spirit within Melton.

To tell us about your Melton Community Heroes, you need to complete a small online form explaining who your hero is and what they have done.
