Who we are & what we do
Brief History Clawson, Hose and Harby Parish Council was formed in 1894 as the lower tier of local government, allowing the electorate in this rural area some input in to the management of their local communities.
Role of the Parish Council This Parish covers the third largest rural ward in the Melton Borough, the electorate numbering almost 1900 and incorporating the three neighbouring villages of Long Clawson, Hose and Harby. The Parish Council has been in existence for over one hundred years and, within its powers, it strives to serve and improve the local communities and act as a channel for local opinion to the higher tiers of local government, being Melton Borough Council and Leicestershire County Council.
The Clerk from 6th January 2020 is Claire Buckle, who can be contacted on 01949 861452 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
The Parish Council is very active and is consulted and in turn itself consults on a variety of issues. e.g. Borough and County Council issues, transportation, highways and the maintenance thereof, flooding, community waste disposal, dog fouling, street-lighting, development control and planning, play equipment, hedges, trees, Parish maintenance, grounds maintenance, Long Clawson Cemetery, allotments, etc. It budgets each year and, from that budget, the level of Precept is determined and added to the Council Tax bill annually. The accounts are annually audited, prior to which they are made available for public inspection.
The voluntary post of Archaeological & Heritage Warden is vacant. There is a volunteer tree warden for Long Clawson and for Harby. A tree warden is needed for Hose.
The Parish Council meets on the third Monday of each month and the meetings are held in all three villages in rotation. All meetings commence at 7.00 pm unless notified. Extra meetings are held if deemed necessary by the work load. Further to the monthly meetings, the Annual Parish Meeting is usually held in April, when the meeting is open to the public to express their opinions and ask questions.
Notices to advertise these meetings are placed on Parish Council notice-boards in all three villages, together with any other notices and relevant information. Members of the public are welcome at all Parish Council meetings, unless otherwise stated. Members of the public are also invited to address Councillors prior to the opening of each meeting should they wish to do so. Copies of past and present approved Minutes and the Clerk's Report are available from the Clerk. The latest approved Minutes can be read on-line
